Frequently Asked Questions

  • Stretch film, also known as pallet wrap or stretch wrap, is a plastic film used to secure and protect products. Typically stretch film is used for wrapping around pallet loads to hold the contents together, and prevent items from shifting during transport.
  • The difference between blown film and cast film lies in their manufacturing process, which produces different characteristics.  Cast film has better clarity than blown film, and when unwinding, is very quiet.  Blown film has a higher puncture and tear resistance than cast film, and because of the way it is made, is a stronger film with a greater resistance to breaking. The wrapping application is important to consider when deciding between blown film and cast film. Since blown film has a higher puncture and tear resistance, and greater durability, it is better suited for heavy loads with sharp edged items. On the other hand, cast film is better suited for lighter products and evenly stacked pallets, where you need the high clarity to see labels/barcodes through the film.
  • Yes, there is a difference between stretch film and shrink film. Stretch film is used for holding and securing items, generally on pallets during transport. Shrink film is a plastic film that shrinks when heated, and is used for contracting tightly around products, to form around their shape. Unlike stretch film, shrink film doesn't have any stretchy properties.
  • Typically stretch film is recyclable, however it depends on the specific product and the recycling program which you are using. It is important that the stretch film is clean and free of contaminants before recycling. Contact one of our PakPro's to learn about the sustainable stretch film products which KeyPak has to offer!
  • The correct stretch film for your application will depend on the weight and contents of your load, the wrap requirements, your budget, and environmental conditions. Contact one of our PakPro's for your free consultation!
